THE ACTUAL REVIEW
Before watching the movie, I was
really stoked and curious on how they will adapt the story arc of “Civil War”
into a film since that arc has a lot of characters (heroes) and such. I started
to make my own speculations and assumptions on how they will do it; how they
will insert some new characters and how will they explain the law for the
heroes.
And I or maybe we all know how
the usual ending of the Civil War in the comics, which is Captain America
dying. So that made me nervous since I don’t want him dead after the movie, I
want him to be alive for the Infinity Wars movies; but movies don’t exactly
follow the comics, that’s why it is called an adaptation (and I trusted them
for that. Please don’t screw it up MCU).
Another thing, I was so excited
for Spider-man. At a high-level intensity of excitement because I’ve heard a
lot of positive feedback about him playing the role; oh and that kid is pretty
talented. If you see his movies, you’ll know why. Plus points that he’s also a
huge fan of Spider-man; he said in one of his interviews that his favorite arc
is “The Ultimate Spider-man”. So yeah, he’s one of my “much awaited scene” in
the film.
The film started with a bit of
flashback story of Bucky “The Winter Soldier” in Siberia, doing his mission.
Then it switched to the present time, on where the main story will focus. Since
I’ve read some of the issues from this arc, I’ve begun to think about how they
will interpret it different from the comics.
So I started to find some clues
or hints on how the film will go, like what my professor said in a seminar, be
attentive in the first 15 minutes of the movie because that is the time span
where they will reveal all the gist of the whole film.
And alas, I was convinced in the
technique that they’ve done to stir the conflict for the latter parts of the
film. I can never think of any other way on how to introduce the conflict of
the “Civil War” in the comics in the film like the way they did. Good job for
being so smooth Russo Brothers.
The introduction of Peter Parker
was neatly done, even though it only lasted for a couple of minutes. They
somehow showed the relationship Tony and Peter have in the comics; now I can
see where that father-to-son relationship will go on the next solo movie of Spider-man.
The whole scene was so precious you would not be able to drift your attention
away from it. And Peter was so talkative it became adorable and fun to watch.
Robert and Tom nailed it.
The character development of Tony
Stark was so on point, after the movie you will really sympathize with him.
Poor lad and the dramas he’s into; while Steve Rogers were consistent in the
whole film. He’s really adamant with every decision that he’s making throughout
everything, maybe because he’s motivated to protect the best friend of his
life. I really admire his principles and his unwavering will to fight for what
is right.
But the movie didn’t exactly
emphasize the main factors on why the Civil War started among the heroes like
in the comics. I think it lacked that ignite from the people to build up an
uprising and protest to the heroes. Well, every adaptation has its own negative things, but these things doesn't stop the film from being special as it can be.
Nonetheless, from the beginning up until
the end, you’ll realize so many things about life because of this film, and
the real ramifications of being consumed by too much vengeance in one’s heart.
There are too many good things in
the movie that you need to witness with your own eyes, so I suggest you to see
it while it’s still on cinemas. I swear it is worth all the wait and penny that
the ticket cost.
The film was full of hijacking
moments of excitement; it is action-packed, humorous and emotional as well. MCU
really owned it, they made the story exact but different. It is an old story,
but shown with a different touch. I was really nervous for this film actually,
but in the end it proved that Civil War is definitely a Captain America movie. You can never “not love” this kind of movie,
loving it is inevitable. This is by far one of the memorable movies that the
MCU has made.
